Ametek Haydon Kerk Size 6
16mm Hybrid Stepper Linear Actuator.
The new Size 6 is the smallest hybrid stepper linear actuator in Ametek Haydon Kerk Pittman’s 16000 Series.
With a 16 mm (0.6 in) frame and travel resolutions down to 0.0001 inches per step, it provides controlled linear motion in compact systems where space and precision both matter.
This actuator is designed for miniature medical, laboratory, optical, and industrial equipment that requires repeatable motion without increasing the mechanical footprint.
Selmark represents Ametek Haydon Kerk Pittman throughout New England and supports engineers with configuration guidance and application review.
Size 6 Key Features
This actuator is designed for miniature motion platforms where footprint, repeatability, and integration flexibility matter.
- Frame size: 16 mm (0.6 in)
- Step angle: 3°
- Configuration: Bipolar (4-wire)
- Available voltages: 5 VDC, 7.5 VDC, 12 VDC
- Power Consumption: 4.6W Total
- Maximum thrust: 50 N (11 lbf)
- Weight: 1.37oz (39 g)
- Insulation class: Class H (180°C)
- Insulation Resistance: 20 MΩ
The Size 6 hybrid stepper linear actuator is available in three mechanical styles. Each serves a different integration approach.
Application Fit
The Size 6 is typically selected when:
- The system envelope must remain under 20 mm
- Linear thrust up to 50 N (11 lbf) is sufficient
- Fine positioning resolution is required
- A compact stepper-based solution is preferred over a DC motor platform
- Encoder feedback may be required in future revisions
It fills the gap between ultra-miniature motion and larger 20 mm+ hybrid stepper platforms.
Mechanical Configurations
The Size 6 is available in three mechanical styles. Selection depends on how motion is guided within your system.
Captive Linear Actuator
The captive version incorporates an integrated lead screw and guided motion. The stroke length is defined within the actuator assembly.
It reduces the need for external guidance components.
This version is often used when:
-
Space is constrained
-
Stroke is known and fixed
Non-Captive Linear Actuator
In the non-captive configuration, the lead screw translates through the motor body while the nut travels externally in your assembly.
It allows the motion system to be incorporated directly into a larger mechanical design.
This version is often used when:
-
The system provides its own guidance
-
Custom stroke lengths are required
External Linear Actuator
The external linear configuration separates the motor and lead screw. The nut is not integrated into the rotor.
Encoders are currently available for the external configuration. (See below)
This version provides:
-
Greater mechanical design flexibility
-
Compatibility with encoder options
-
Suitability for closed-loop systems
Encoder and Feedback Options
The external linear configuration can be equipped with a compact optical incremental encoder.
Encoder features:
- Two-channel quadrature TTL output
- Optional index pulse (one per revolution)
- 250 to 4000 cycles per revolution
- 1000 to 16,000 pulses per revolution
- Operating temperature: −40°C to 100°C
This option supports closed-loop motion control and position verification applications.
Precision motion in a compact footprint.
The Ametek Haydon Kerk Size 6 16mm hybrid stepper linear actuator delivers controlled linear motion where space is limited and accuracy matters.
At Selmark, we help engineers and purchasing teams select the right configuration — captive, non-captive, or external — and match lead screw pitch, resolution, and drive strategy to the application. That includes reviewing thrust requirements, duty cycle, and closed-loop needs before a design is finalized.
No matter your need, we will help determine the best product for your application or assist in the creation of custom-made designs. Contact us for samples and pricing.
